Open BIM Model Checker allows project teams to import one or more IFC models from a BIMserver.center project and inspect the combined architectural, structural and building-services information within a coordinated three-dimensional environment. Projects may also be started without initially connecting them to BIMserver.center and linked later when required.
The interface provides model display controls organised by floors, disciplines and IFC categories. Individual elements can be isolated, hidden or displayed using colour, transparency, wireframe or monochrome modes. Section planes and clipping volumes can also be created to inspect internal parts of complex BIM models.
Issues can be created directly from the three-dimensional model. Each issue may contain a title, description, associated BIM elements, a captured viewpoint and a reference point positioned within the model. These issues can be shared through BIMserver.center so that the responsible project participants can locate, review and resolve them.
Graphical annotations can be added using lines, arrows, ellipses and quadrilaterals. The program also provides tools for recording distances, angles and surface measurements directly on the coordinated model.
Automatic clash detection can compare selected files, disciplines, categories or individual element groups. For example, users can check structural columns against plumbing pipes or ventilation ducts, inspect the detected intersections and convert selected clashes into project issues. The clash-detection function requires the corresponding licence permission, while the program’s other principal checking tools are available free of charge.
The Documents environment provides access to files attached to the imported IFC contributions, including documents such as PDF and DWG files. This allows the project team to review both the geometric BIM model and its associated technical documentation from the same coordination workflow.
Open BIM Model Checker can be used for:
These applications reflect the program’s three primary functions: issue generation, clash detection and document checking.
