Open BIM Cable Routing is a specialised BIM application for designing and coordinating cable routing systems in 3D. Engineers can model cable trays, trunking, conduits and associated supports while incorporating electrical and telecommunications cables from manufacturer catalogues. It can also read electrical circuit information from single-line diagrams created in applications such as CYPELEC. The product was introduced in version 2024.d and remains a current standalone CYPE application; I found no indication that it has been renamed, merged or replaced. CYPE also published an updated English Quickview for it in July 2025.

Overview

Open BIM Cable Routing provides a 3D environment for designing cable distribution systems using trays, trunking and conduits. Engineers can incorporate electrical and telecommunications cables, supports, fittings, branches, elevation changes and other routing components while selecting products from manufacturer catalogues.

Cable information can be obtained from CYPELEC single-line diagrams or assigned from catalogues and user libraries. The application also generates material schedules, drawings and bills of quantities for the installed routing systems.

Through BIMserver.center, architectural and IFC models can be imported while completed cable-routing geometry is exported using IFC and glTF, allowing coordinated electrical and telecommunications design within an Open BIM project.
