Open BIM Site provides a dedicated workflow for preparing the geographical and topographical context of a BIM project. Users can define the project’s latitude, longitude, altitude, postal address, north direction and site reference system, including coordinate systems commonly expressed using UTM coordinates. This information supports the accurate positioning and orientation of multidisciplinary building models.
Maps and spatial information can be imported using WMS web services or conventional reference files such as DXF, DWG, PDF, JPEG, PNG and other supported image formats. Where compatible national web services are available, cadastral maps, orthophotography, parcel data, building information and digital terrain information can be retrieved directly.
Topographic surfaces can be created from Esri ASCII files, CSV or TXT point files, Web Coverage Services or points entered directly in the application. The resulting terrain can be edited, simplified and displayed using automatically generated contour lines with configurable intervals, labels and elevation colours.
Users can define parcels using three-dimensional contours and add surrounding buildings with their respective footprints, heights, colours and associated information. Maps, parcels and buildings can then be projected onto the terrain to create a coordinated representation of the project’s real-world environment.
Existing IFC models can be imported from BIMserver.center and positioned within the site model. Open BIM Site provides plan, elevation, section and three-dimensional views, together with visibility controls, clipping tools and realistic shadow simulation based on the site location, date and time.
The completed site model can be shared through BIMserver.center and transferred directly to CYPE Architecture for the next stage of architectural modelling. Open BIM Site is currently available as a free CYPE application.
