Technological Transformation Project for Improving Quality and Efficiency of Coal Preparation Plant in Gaojialiang Coal Mine

Challenges

CCTEG Beijing Huayu Engineering Co., Ltd. was responsible for transforming an existing coal preparation plant at the Gaojialiang coal mine into a new intelligent mining facility. The project required building a new main coal mining plant and delivery system capable of achieving an annual raw coal processing capacity of 10 million tons.

The team faced significant challenges integrating new systems with existing infrastructure while working under a strict project timeline. Additionally, the requirement to deliver an intelligent mine demanded the implementation of advanced digital workflows and coordinated collaboration across multiple disciplines.

To address these challenges, the team leveraged Bentley’s open modeling applications alongside ProjectWise and LumenRT to establish a connected digital environment.

They implemented coordinated 3D modeling and developed a digital twin of the coal preparation plant, enabling better visualization, integration, and collaboration across all project stakeholders. This digital platform facilitated streamlined workflows, improved coordination between disciplines, and supported the development of an intelligent mining system.

Solution

Results

By adopting a collaborative BIM process and digital twin approach, the project team significantly improved efficiency and project delivery.

The integrated workflow avoided more than 100 design errors and shortened the design cycle by 20 percent. These improvements enhanced overall delivery quality, reduced project timelines, and lowered costs while advancing the adoption of digital technologies within the coal mining industry.
